Coffee could hold the cure for baldness
Written by: Pat Hagan | January, 2007
“…To test the idea, Dr Fischer took scalp biopsies from 14 men in the early stages of hair loss. He extracted hair follicles and placed them in test tubes with solutions containing different levels of caffeine. The samples were left in the laboratory for up to eight days to monitor growth. At the end of the experiment, caffeine had boosted the length of the hairs by between 33 percent and 40 percent. In contrast, other test tubes containing hair follicles mixed with testosterone showed that they grew much more slowly. Scientists behind the breakthrough believe caffeine affects hair cells in such a way that they are able to resist the damaging effects of DHT. “Hair follicles that were treated with caffeine showed a highly significant growth rate at 24 hours, and still showed further significant growth at eight days,” said Dr Fischer.”

Caffeine Complex Is Effective in the Treatment of Androgenetic Alopecia
Study by: Dr. T. W. Fischer & Prof. Dr. P. Elsner
“…The studies carried out to find new effective mechanisms against androgenetic alopecia yielded the surprising result that caffeine can cancel the undesirable effects of testosterone. These results showed that, in addition to the generally expected effect of improving circulation, caffeine had other effects that had previously been overlooked. In the wake of these reports, caffeine was applied to the hair follicles of men with beginning hereditary hormonal hair loss and the results were analyzed.
The study results show that caffeine is able to cancel the suppression of hair growth induced by testosterone and even to stimulate hair growth beyond the normal level. The studies carried out in the HOCM have thus confirmed that caffeine is able to neutralize the undesirable effects of testosterone, a substance held responsible for the shutdown of hair follicle activity in patients with androgenetic alopecia. Following exposure to caffeine, the hair follicles return to a balanced state equivalent to the state of the untreated hair follicles in the control solution.”

20 Amazing Benefits Of Caffeine For Skin, Hair And Health
July 2014 (author unknown)
Benefits of Caffeine For Hair:
The length and quality of your hair depends upon the health of your hair follicles and hair growth cycle. Caffeine not only stimulates your body and mind but also your hair roots. It is often used as an ingredient in shampoos and other hair care products to improve hair growth and structure. It has the following hair benefits.
18. Treatment of Hair Loss:
Men often experience hair loss due to the effects of the male hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which affects susceptible hair follicles. Consequently, these follicles become smaller and finally disappear, causing baldness. This process is known as “miniaturization” of the hair follicles, adversely affects the growth phases of hair.
Caffeine, when applied topically, penetrates into the hair roots and stimulates them. Besides preventing male baldness and hair loss, it stimulates the hair roots in the scalps of women and triggers stronger hair growth.
For caffeine to be effective, allow the caffeine-containing shampoo to stay on your scalp for two minutes so that it can penetrate the hair roots.
19. Stimulates Hair Growth:
Caffeine is considered a stimulant for hair follicles. Research by the International Journal of Dermatology indicated that topical treatment with caffeine resulted in the increase in average growth of hair follicles by around 46%. It also extended its life cycle by 33%. This is because caffeine can block the effect of DHT which damages the hair follicles and is responsible for causing male pattern baldness.
20. Makes Hair Manageable:
Besides strengthening the hair shaft, caffeine products add natural shine to your hair and make them more manageable.

Caffeine in Hair Care Products Provide a Kick for Hair Roots

Caffeine-containing Hair Products Energize the Hair Roots
Many men face early hair loss due to the effects of the male hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which acts on susceptible hair follicles. As a result, these follicles get smaller and smaller and finally disappear (common baldness). This process is called ‘miniaturisation of the hair follicles’, which also influences the growth phases of hair. Caffeine penetrates into the hair roots and stimulates them. It also stimulates the hair roots in the scalps of women and triggers stronger hair growth.
How to Use Caffeine-Containing Hair Care Products
Be sure to allow the caffeine-containing shampoo to stay on the scalp for at least two minutes. It takes a while for the caffeine to penetrate to the hair roots and show an effect. We recommend the regular use of caffeine-containing hair care products because caffeine is degraded in the scalp within about 24 hours.
